A little about me . . .

a city girl in the country . . . that's me; Paula Bishop.

OK, a very brief history . . . I am a native of Port Washington, Long Island, NY. Thanks to my very astute High School guidance counselor, I somehow found myself attending Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire in the fall of 1982. (a quote from my mom..."where??? where is NH anyway??") Amazingly, it was a perfect fit - by Christmas I was hooked - "the country" was for me!

Unfortunately for me (and not surprisingly) the original  "city girl" a.k.a. my mother Nita, didn't agree. She made me promise that I'd come home after graduation, and I did. I spent the next 13 years living in Greenwich, Connecticut doing the Wall Street thing.

In 1999 after I'd lost both my wonderful parents I decided to finally make my escape and "ran away from home" to a lake house I'd purchased in beautiful Antrim, New Hampshire.

Seven years later I have 3 cats, 2 dogs, 1 husband, 1 baby and a happy life.

This is rural living . Everything requires "a drive". Not a day goes by that I don't pass a house that has some treasure propped up against the side of the house, shed, barn, doghouse - wherever - ROTTING! I can't believe I haven't yet driven off the road. It was starting to make me insane, threatening to ruin my new country-living-induced karma.  Something had to be done.  That something is City Girl In The Country.

At City Girl I buy, sell, trade and sometimes consign all kinds of old house and building parts, specializing in Farm Sinks and cool vintage bathroom fixtures like sinks and claw foot tubs. If it's "antique", "vintage" or simply "old" - I want it, I have it, or I'll try to help you find it. Please don't hesitate to contact me for any reason, I'd love to hear from you. I ship all over the country and am completely honest and candid about my stuff.

I usually open for retail hours when I'm at the warehouse working on Saturday afternoons from 12:00 to 3:00pm. If it's cold or if my son Liam is with me, I'll most likely bail early.. I also meet people through the web and by word of mouth. I'm pretty easy to reach and am happy to connect with you by email, telephone and by appointment.

Also, hit "inventory" on any page and it will take you to my ebay store. I keep several things listed there to give folks an idea of what I'm all about.

City Girl is not an Antique Store - no attitude here! I don't want to marry my stuff - I want to sell it, to find new loving homes for all of it!! I'm not interested in offending you by trying to make my first million off of you. I do not overpay for items and price them to you like the Hope Diamond. If it's overpriced I don't buy it, that to me is missing the point.

So what is the point?  Two points actually:

One, I love and appreciate the history and amazing quality of objects of the past.

Two, to keep old house parts out of the landfills.

If you're still reading this, hopefully you agree.

Thanks for stopping by my site!

Paula
